Waterline Writers is an event held in the beautiful art gallery at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water Street, Batavia IL. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, from 7-8:30, we provide a place for talented, published and not-yet-published writers to read to an enthusiastic audience. Waterline Writers has become a meeting place and synergistic center for gifted writers, avid readers, visual artists and musicians. Come experience this unique event–and invite your friends!

Waterline Writers begins its 2014-2015 season on October 19 at 7. We will feature 5 writers selected by submission to represent the best in all genres. New: Your $5 donation will allow each featured writer to receive an honorarium.

We are now accepting submissions for Oct 19, Nov 16, Dec 21, Jan 18, Feb 15, Mar 15, Apr 19, and May 17. We seek fiction (short stories or novel excerpts of any genre), poetry, creative non-fiction or memoir, spoken word, plays, storytelling, stand-up comedy, song lyrics (to be read and also sung), and multi-media work. New: We now accept non-fictional pieces that entertain, inform or enlighten! For more information, visit our website.

New: Each event will be followed by a half hour open mic with 5 minute time limit.

New: We invite the leaders of local writers’ groups to select the work of one writer each month to submit for our consideration. Of course leaders and writers’ group members may submit their own work at any time too! 

Bad News, Good News: We can no longer include alcohol at our events, but hope to have freshly brewed, Fresh Grounds coffee available. We are sorry to discontinue our food table as well.

New: Writers Studio Space! Now available at Water Street Studios, 3 writers may rent and share a studio. Includes 3 simple desks and office chairs (or bring your own), key card access to WSS, and a key to your studio. $125 per month with 3-month minimum. Interview, deposit and signed contract are required. Contact wssfacilities@gmail.com. 

New: Galleries are for Writers Too! Drop-in writing time at Water Street Studios: 1/2 hour discussion inspired by pieces in the gallery (with new art every other month), 1 hour silent writing time (bring your laptop or pen, paper & clipboard), 1/2 hour discussion & optional sharing. Thurs, Oct 16: Details TBA. This year, Elgin Community College’s Writers Center Reading Series will feature several local writers’ groups. Congratulations to Barbara Barrows, D.C. Brod, Frank Rutledge and Patrick Shannon, who will represent Waterline Writers on October 16th! Come to ECC to listen to new work by these authors.

West Suburban Wordplays: poetry workshops, open mics and featured poets at Water Street in Batavia, Gail Borden Library in Elgin and Charlestowne Mall in St. Charles. Lit Lab 51, an intergenerational amalgamation of acting, improv, and poetry, also at Charlestowne Mall. See links for details.

Water Street Studios news: Sat, Sept. 27th 6 -10 pm: The annual fundraiser ŏn-sŏm’ bəl features an experimental runway show, gallery exhibition, performers, live auction and after-show DJ dance party. Tickets at $125 (Reserved VIP Champagne Seating), $85 (drinks, small plates, dessert, coffee and guaranteed seating for the runway show), and $25 (Post-Show DJ Dance Party Only). Gallery exhibit runs through October 31st. If you’re not sure, see Jim Kirkhoff’s beautiful videos of the 2013 and 2012 runway shows!

Water Street Studios, home of Waterline Writers, also includes two art galleries, a gift shop, School of Art classes for all ages, free children’s Awesome Art Afternoons, children’s and teens’ Art Flow programs, and full artist Access to PrintLab, CeramicLab or MetalLab equipment. Several of its 28 2-D and fully equipped 3-D artist studios are currently for rent. 160 S. Water Street in Batavia (PrintLab and some classes at 117 W. Main Street in St. Charles).
